Record Label Research

For our record label research I conducted depth studies into the major labels. I found that the biggest record labels during 2008-2011 were EMI Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group. However, now there are only three major as EMI has absorbed into Universal Music Group. We felt that Warner Music Group were the most suitable record label for our chosen song as Warner have many similar artists to ours in the same genre such as Avenged Sevenfold, Foals, Fort Minor, Green Day, Linkin Park, Metallica, Muse, My Chemical Romance, Paramore, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The White Stripes. These artists all relate to ours as they share the same genre.

Our chosen record label is down to the fact that we are releasing our first album and feel that Warner Music  Group would be an ideal label to be signed to as they are one of the biggest record labels in the world. Rob Cavallo is the current owner of the company and the record label has a close relationship with its former parent Warner Bros. Pictures.

Warner Music Group was initially established in 1958 as the recorded music division of Warner Bros. Pictures. Warner Music Group is the third biggest record label in the world and therefore they have a variety of artists signed to them ranging from many genres. They have a big contingent of artists from each main genre and we feel that because of this, it would be ideal for us to use Warner Music Group as our designated label.

We decided not to go for any other label as Warner was the third best in the market, and it would be unrealistic being signed by the biggest or second biggest label in the industry as an upcoming artist. Also, the band that sings our song for real is Linkin Park who are also signed to this label. This is why we chose Warner Music Group and not Sony Music Entertainment or EMI Group.
